A region with mostly mud brick houses, dozens of villages were completely destroyed killing hundreds and devastating the lives of thousands.
Iran has been hit by a number of earthquakes in the recent years with the most devastating being the Bam Earthquake in 2003 that killed at least 50,000 people.
